Alkyl Ketene Dimer AKD Neutral Sizing Emulsion

AKD emulsion is a cationic reactive sizing agent engineered for direct application in neutral pH papermaking systems. It delivers superior water repellency, resistance to acid/alkaline solution penetration, and improved edge penetration resistance in paper substrates.

This sizing agent optimizes key physical properties of paper, making it a critical component in manufacturing high-grade papers such as:

Art base paper & photo base paper
Electrostatic copy paper & carbonless paper
Double-coated paper & archival paper
Stamp paper & yew base paper
Tissue products (napkins) and specialty coated papers.

Dosing Methods
- Direct addition to high-consistency pulp slurry.
- Post-dilution addition to the mixing chest.
- Surface sizing (tub-sizing) on dried paper sheets.
Dosage Recommendations
- Standard Sizing: 0.1%-0.2% of absolute dry pulp (a.d.p).
- Heavy-Duty Sizing: 0.3%-0.4% of a.d.p.
Mandatory Dual Retention System
A synergistic retention system combining cationic starch and polyacrylamide (PAM) must be implemented:
- Cationic Starch Specifications:
  - Quaternary ammonium type (degree of substitution ≥0.025)
  - Dosage: 0.6%-1.2% of a.d.p.
- Polyacrylamide (PAM) Specifications:
  - Molecular weight: 3.0×10⁶-5.0×10⁶ Da
  - Working concentration: 0.05%-0.1%
  - Dosage: 100-300 ppm
Process Control
- Maintain pulp pH within 8.0-8.5 throughout the sizing process.
